It was a very surreal image from July 17th, 1994 as the 15th FIFA World Cup opened at Soldier Field, Chicago with Germany drawing with Bolivia 1-1. and later Spain tied South Korea 2-2 at Dallas' Cotton Bowl, BUT IT WAS OVERSHADOWED by the slow 50 mile chase along LA freeways as OJ Simpson in a White Bronco took over the air waves as the LAPD tried to serve a murder warrent on the former American football poster boy.
He was found NOT GUILTY of murder at his televised trial and was later convicted for an armed burglary and sent to prison for 30 years. A few days ago he was granted parole and wil be released to fly home to Florida in October after serving one third of his sentence.

Football politics and yet another sordid story. I often wondered how Spanish football president Angel Maria Villar could escape justice like his many FIFA cohorts. Well not now !! He was arrested and stays in jail without being granted bail, along with his son Golka Villar and two federation executives. The Spanish High Court ordered their arrests cahrged with falsification of documents and skimming profits from international football matches. the elder Villar is a former national team player and president since 1988. He has also been a FIFA executive for 29 years but was reprimanded by FIFA for failing to comply with its internal inquiry into the 2019/2022 World Cup bidding process.www.rfef.es.
Michael Garcia, who conducted the FIFA investigation, wrote that Mr. Villar told him, "Well, you really have balls" when the American lawyer refused to reveal who had made the allegations. He also demanded Mr. Garcia drop the case " for your own good". Mr. Villar, was acting president of UEFA while Michel Platini was under investigation. Gorka Villar served as director-general of CONMEBOL the South American federation, before standing down last year. He had been accused of extortion by a number of Uruguayan football clubs.
