It was a relief at full time at NK Inter Zapresic Stadium in Croatia, close to the Slovenian border. The Young Lions of England were 2-0 ahead against the Turks in the UEFA u17s semi-final, with both teams already qualified for the FIFA u17 World Cup in India in October.  After a 15 minute delay while Tashan Oakley-Boothe suffered a serious injury and was taken by ambulance to hospital. Turkey put on a challenge and reduced the deficit with a goal late in added time in the first half from Kerem Kesgin.

England coach Steve Cooper had named an unchanged starting line-up for the 5th match in a row.. Callum Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring with a pass from Jadon Sancho who scored the second himself from a Phil Foden pass.  The u17 tournament is played annually in Europe while the World Cup is every second year.  It will be the 4th such final for England, who will play Spain on Friday in Varazdin at 20.00 CET. They beat Germany 4-2 on penalties which were taken straight without any extra time being played. The new ABBA method was used. First one team has a kick then the other has the next two, and so on for the first time in a mens tournament.

News that Wayne Rooney lost £500,000 in a two hour spree at midnight in a Manchester casino a few days ago is disturbing news. OK. he can afford it, but what does it say about society and professional football? He is probably out at Old Trafford at the end of the season, and rumoured to be returning to Merseyside-- But can he make the starting line up at Tranmere Rovers??

More gossip from The Theatre of Dreams that Sir Alex Ferguson was the person who put the boot in to the return of womens pro football to Manchester United, leaving Manchester City to get all the headlines and the glory. The Reds had a womens team briefly ftrom 2000 to 2005. They used to have a pro basketball team as well which was not popular with fans and was soon disbanded.

I read today in The Daily Mail that FIFA general secretary had to repay her employees £19,500.00 after FIFA was wrongly billed for cleaning her apartment. HOW BIG IS IT Fatma?? She has a lot of hair, and maybe with a few cats the apartment needs a deep clean, but doesn't she own a vacuum sweeper? The company involved is called SCJ and is owned by Charles Botta, husband of Christine Botta who was disgraced former president Sepp Blatter's personal assistant.

The recent election of Mahfuza Akhter Kiron of Bangladesh to the FIFA Council over her rival Moya Dodd, an esteemed womens football advocate and former national team player was absolutely ridiculous. She beat Dodd by 27 votes to 17  after two other candidates from North Korea and elsewhere dropped out. Kiron had no plan and when interviewed later by BBC's World Service she failed to name the current world champions. She volunteered North Korea, and then said Japan. USA are of course the champions, as she should have known. She was put forward and voted in by East Asian male football politicians to be used for their own causes. The FIFA executive must have 6 females, one from each confederation.

Dodd is still a member of the AFC Asian Football Confederation executive committee and on the board of the Australian Federation. Australia has only been part of AFC since 2006 since switching from OCEANIA which has helped with stronger competition
