Title: WINNERS AND LOSERS AT UEFA u17's

Blog:

Time to return from the magnificent new terminal at Zagreb Airport(less than a month old, and space age architecture)  to attend the 32nd annual Bradford City fire disaster memorial service outside City Hall.

I try to attend on the anniversary of the tragic afternoon of May 11th, 1985.  Bradford City, on the last match of the season were celebrating promotion v Lincoln City. The very old main stand, without a current safety certificate, went up in flames. 56 people died and many more horribly burned. Read www.ronsblog.com: DEATH IN THE AFTERNOON. 10/26/2006 for more details. This Thursday was a sunny day and Bradford will be at Wembley in the play-offs next weekend while Lincoln City had a remarkable FA Cup run and have now returned to the Football League. After Abide With Me and You'll Never Walk Alone where played on the City Hall bells I spoke to both the Lady Lord Mayoress of both Lincoln and Bradford.. Prayers,  and wreaths laid in a moving ceremony.

We are now waiting for the UEFA u17s quarter finals in Croatia this weekend. You can watch some of the matches on Eurosport TV.. The four winners will qualify for the FIFA u17 World Cup in India in October, with a 5th European place going to a play off winner.

England have played some awesome football, beating Norway 3-1, Ukraine 4-0 and Netherlands 3-0. They will play Ireland who came second to their group winners Germany in Velika Gorica on Saturday who beat them 7-0 in the group stages. Not to be overshadowed, Germany ran up record scores with 15-1 goals and play The Netherlands in Zapresic.. Hungary face Turkey in the first quarter final in Velika Gorica then Spain take on fellow two time winners France in Varazdin. Both are live on Eurosport.

Last Saturday evening I went to a top leage HNL match in Zagreb at Stadion Kranjceviceva. I photogaphed a line of at least 50 police passenger vans and hundreds of officers in riot gear, with some dogs that did not want to be petted !!   Dinamo Zagreb have been champions for 11 seasons but it looks like Rijeka will win the 10 team leage shortly. They were playing at NK Locomotiva Zagreb but lost to a last minute pk 1-0 but still lead the league by 4 points. IT WAS RUBBISH...I left at half time. The young lads of Europe were much more entertaining.
