Title: TO SIR WITH LOVE.....40 - LOVE

So. Andy Murray is now a SIR at under 30 years  the youngest knight of modern times after two Olympic singles gold medals, two Wimbeldon titles and now the world's No.1 male tennis player. He has stated that he does not want to be called SIR at tennis tournaments. It could have been a much different story. On  March 13, 1996 in Dunblane, Scotland he was on his way at Dunblane Primary school in the corridor leading to his gym class. In the gymnasium a madman with four handguns murdered 16 five and six year old and one teacher.before killing himself. His older brother Jamie was also at the same school that day.

Also knighted in the Queens New Years Honours List was fellow Olympians Mo Farah, and Jessica Ennis-Hill who was made a Dame. Lots of civil servants and rich donors to the Conservative Party also got gongs. Victoria Beckham received an honour for services to the fashion industry. Fortunately her 17 year old son Brooklyn Beckham was not knighted for his very short service to photography  or for servicing his older American girl friend, !

TO SIR WITH LOVE was one of my favourite movies. Made in 1967 it starred Sidney Poitier as a young teacher in a rough working class East London school and had LULU sing the memorable title song.

This months IBSF International Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships were pulled from SOCHI at the last minute and will now take place in Konigsee in Berchtesgadener Land Bavaria. The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which cost a staggering $51 million, had the most positive drug tests in Olympic history. German, Latvian, Swedish, Ukrainian, Austriam and Polish athletes tested positive. Russia also decided to cheat after only winning a 'very abysmal' 15 medals at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. It began making positive drug tests disappear and with the help of Russia's security service FSB. swapped positive urine samples for clean, negative ones through a 'mose hole' adding table salt to male them weigh the same, However, they left miniscule tool marks on the opened bottles discovered under the microscope. More retesting of Sochi 2014 athletes will be done this month.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the day that Donald Campbell died on Coniston Water in Englamd's Lake District.  His speedboat  BLUEBIRD K7, travelling at 483 km/hr,  was catapulted 15m into the air and sank. He was killed instantly and his boat and body were not recovered until 2001. Today his daughter Gina Campbell clutched her father's teddy bear mascot Mr. Whoppit which was found in the wreckage and placed flowers on the spot where he died. He was one of my childhood heroes and I watched the tragedy at the time on the BBC TV News. Ten years ago I drioe to the edge of the lake. The boat is being restored in Newcastle and hopes to be on the water again later this year.

Positive news from Elland Road today as the club announce that fellow Italian 42 year old Andrea Rasrizzani has purchased a 50% stake in Leeds United from horrible owner(WELL,, the latest horrible owner) of Leeds United, Massimo Cellino. Cellino took over in April 2014 but the 60 year old has already been banned three times by The FA and is at present banned for 18 months and fined £250,000 a few weeks ago for breaching rules over the sale of Ross McCormack to Fulham in 2014.  Cellino has sacked 6 managers before appointing Gary Monk who has steadied the ship with United in 5th place in The Championship and playing some very positive football.
