Star of the South. Part of the FC Bayern Munich club song that fans belt out in Allianz Arena on match days.

WHAT A SEASON INDEED for the treble winning boys...the first German club to achieve the feat and the seventh club ever. Celtic 66-67, Ajax 71-72, PSV Eindhoven 87-88, Manchester United 98-99, Barcelona 08-09, Internazionale 09-10, FC Bayern 12-13.

"FC Bayern, Star of the South, you'll never set. because we'll stay together in good times like in bad times. FC Bayern German Champions, yes, that's my football club. Yes, that's the way it was, it is, and it always wil be."

This is the chorus, sang four times.

FC Bayern Munich were founded  on 27th February 1900 when 11 players under the leadership of Franz John met at the Gisela Restaurant.  It was slow progress and when they were in the post war Oberliga Sud it was decided to form The Bundesliga in 1963 with 5 clubs from the Sud league invited. TSV 1860 Munich had won the Sud with FC Bayern third, but the league only wanted one Munich club. Two years later FC Bayern were admitted and the came third but won the German Cup Final.

This entitled them to enter the next season's European Cup Winners Cup. They went on to beat Rangers in the final, 1-0 in extra time and retain the cup the next season. They had young players such as Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller and Sepp Maier, nicknamed Der Axis.

The rest is history! Recently BRAND FINANCE CEO David Haigh named Bayern Munich as the world's most valuable football club, worth $860. The have overtaken Manchester United $669, . Real Madrid $621, Barcelona $572, Chelsea $480, Arsenal $410, Manchester City $332,  Liverpool $311, AC MIlan $263, Dortmund Borussia $260.

According to acting finance director Andrea Jung, in 2012 Bayern sold 600,000 replica shirts and expect to reach one million in 2013.

This week Frenchman Franck Ribery and Belgian Daniel Van Buyten signed new deals while Pep Guardiola, the incoming coach is evidently interested in signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool...and offering Arjen Robben in part exchange. One reason maybe that Suarez' agent is Pere Guardiola, the new coach's brother!!!

Robben set up Mario Mandzukic for the opening goal in the Champions League Final at Wembley and scored the 89th minute winner himself.

Pre season in late June -early July is in Trentino, Italy with some warm up matches, followed by the trird edition of THE AUDI CUP at Allianz Arena July 31 and Augsut 1st, featuring FC Bayern, AC Milan, Manchester City and FC Sao Paulo.
