On July 17th former US attorney Michael Garcia was appointed to be FIFA's new chief investigator and start the INQUISITION.... ABOUT TIME ! He is one of a twin appointment, the other being German judge Hans-Joachim Eckert who will be helping get to the bottom of ANY problem that they seem fit to explore. NO STONE WILL BE UNTURNED. The bigger the personality...the more they will dig!
Yesterday it was announced that high priority investigations are the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups to Russia and Qatar, BUT they will also open the case of the 2006 World Cup, successfully held in Germany which was awarded in 2000.
The day before the vote that gave Germany a 12-11 vote over South Africa, $250,000 was handed over by disgraced former marketing partner of FIFA, Swiss company ISL to a person only documented as E16. The same day OCEANIA President Charles Dempsey left in a hurry for his home in Auckland, NZ after saying that he and his family feared for their own safety. I once had lunch of toasted sandwiches with the Scottish born football politician at his golf club in Auckland. At the time his daughter was running the OCEANIA office.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has said that if the vote had been tied 12-12, that he would have cast the deciding vote for South Africa. I still believe that it was far better to give more time and hold the 2010 Cup in South Africa, which was very succesful.
Current DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach, who was the bid co-ordinator in 2000 and later World Cup Organizer for 2006 was assisting frontman Franz Beckenbauer the bid leader, and World Cup President.
In a recent interview with German TV networks ARD and WDR, Garcia mentioned his proposed investigation, and previous DFB President Zeo Zwanziger said that he would welcome such an investigation, and told investigative journalist Jens Weinreich that in 2006 he had just taken over from Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, and didn't know all the details of previous dealings.
Russia won the 2018 bid and will utilise Five PODS (areas with 2-3 cities each) in Western Russia as the Central and Eastern parts of the country are too far away for easy access. EIGHT TIME ZONES. I once took the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Irkutsk in Siberia, and then a flight to Khabarovsk the capital of the Soviet Far East, and then another overnight train to the Pacific coast and then a 3 day ferry to Yokohama, Japan.
England, Holland/Belgium, Spain/Portugal were left out in the cold, while USA and Australia suffered badly in the contest with Qatar, who paid millions of dollars to former football stars to support them and who knows to which football politicians? Der Kaizer was reported to cast his vote at the suggestion of Chancellor Angela Merkel who wanted a lucration rail system awarded to a Germany company. Platini also cast his vote for the desert sheikdom, and later his attorney son Laurent Platini miraculously was given a well paid sports job there.
