WELL, that probably got your attention!!. I have been flying in and out of Rio's Galeao Airport (now officially Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport) for the last 30 plus years, and there is one thing that I and millions of other travellers will always remember--THE VOICE.

IRIS LETTIERI is the voice for the take-off announcements, delays and other information and she is THE MOST SEDUCTIVE voice you have ever heard. People have been so mesmerized that they have missed their flights after she suggested they visit the duty free shops. Iris is now 65 years old and an Audrey Hepburn look-alike who has been the voice since her audition in 1976.  She works once a month in a studio to make recordings, and such is her popularity you have probably heard her in other Brasilian airports. She also became Brasil's first TV anchor woman, and people want to purchase tapes.

Talk about Helen of Troy launching a thousand ships with her looks, well this Brasilian launches thousands of jet planes taking off to Manaus, Natal, Belem, Fortaleza(my favourite announcement), Recife, Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, Buenes Aires, Montevideo, Paris, Miami, Chicago, Rome, London. Lisbon...

She has had six husbands, used to smoke 2 packs a day, does radio commercials and says that she learned diction from her mother who was a concert pianist.  Iris says she only speaks Portuguese, but can read and make announcements in many languages including Spanish, English, French and Russian. She has a sultry contralto voice and hopefully she will continue until you all arrive for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
